Charlie Rubin

Lead instructor

Year:

3rd Year

About me:

Hello! My name is Charlie, and I’m super excited to be serving as Lead Instructor this year. I will be getting my B.A. in Math this year, followed by an M.S. in statistics in 2028. I’m originally from St. Louis, but I’m happy to now call Charlottesville my home.

I’ve been dancing ballet, jazz, and tap since I was four years old, but had no experience with Latin dance prior to UVA. On FDOC of my first year, I went to Salsa’s Rotunda Dance Social, and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve performed a lot of different functions in the club, including Secretary, SalsaFest Finance Chair, and choreographer, but the part I’ve always loved most about the club is our weekly lessons.

I hope to make the club as welcoming as possible to all members of our UVA community. Whether you’ve been dancing for a day or a decade, whether you’re a first-year student or a law school professor (RIP Fabi), there’s a place for you in this club. Like many other members of Salsa Club I learned how to dance through the club’s lessons, and I hope to pass that gift on to as many people as possible.

Outside of dancing, you can find me playing the Harp through the UVA music department or working in some pre-professional organizations on grounds. I’m an avid film buff and lover of Trader Joe’s vegetarian chicken nuggets iykyk. I can’t wait to meet the next generation of salseritos and bachateritas.
