Since 2006, we have led the effort to make UVA community even spicier. We are at the forefront of promoting and instructing Latin dance at the University.

The University Salsa Club is a student-run Contracted Independent Organization at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. We are one of the largest University Latin dance clubs on the East coast of the United States! We won "Most Fun CIO" of 2011-2012 and "Best CIO in the Arts" of 2012-2013 at UVA.

The University Salsa Club is open to all University students, faculty, and staff interested in learning, dancing, and even performing a variety of dance styles including Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha, Merengue, and more. FAQ

How can I join?

You can join at ANY point in the year - come try out a few lessons!! Go to our Listserv page and enter your full email to join our mailing list and get more info! Membership is open to all UVA students, faculty, and staff.

Can I join if I can't dance?

Of course! Everyone starts from somewhere and after a semester of dancing you may even surprise yourself!

Do I need to bring a partner?

No - bring friends or come solo! Either way, you'll be switching partners often throughout the lesson.

What do I wear to lessons?

Dress comfortably. Most people wear casual or athletic clothing but there is no dress code. Any comfortable closed-toed shoes or Latin shoes are recommended.

What is a typical lesson like?

A typical lesson includes a warm-up led by an instructor followed by a lesson led by one or two pairs of instructors. After the warm-up, the group is split into circles of different difficulty levels with an even ratio of leads and follows. Everyone finds a partner to begin but the circle rotates throughout the lesson. There is usually social dancing or birthday dances at the end of each lesson!

How can I practice my skills outside of the lessons?

There are many places to go social dancing in Charlottesville, which we advertise on our Instagram and in our emails! Club members love going social dancing every week, so you will always see familiar faces around.

How much are dues?

Dues are $25 per semester plus processing fees.
